SYP grows in the southern United States from Virginia to Florida and West to the Piney Woods of Texas. Builders select SYP lumber for almost every purpose. In residential construction, SYP is used in many structural applications such as joists, rafters, roof trusses and laminated beams.
In addition, since SYP absorbs preservatives well, it is preferred as antiseptic lumber, making it one of tree species utilized for diversified uses such as outdoor deck, patio and other outdoor products, etc. For SYP lumber, NLGA (National Lumber Grades Authority) and NGR (National Grading Rules) grade regulations approved by ALS (American Lumber Standard) are followed.
