SYP

Southern Yellow Pine(SYP) grow in in the southern United States from Virginia to Florida and West to the Piney Woods of Texas. 

SYP grows in the southern United States from Virginia to Florida and West to the Piney Woods of Texas. Builders select SYP lumber for almost every purpose. In residential construction, SYP is used in many structural applications such as joists, rafters, roof trusses and laminated beams.

In addition, since SYP absorbs preservatives well, it is preferred as antiseptic lumber, making it one of tree species utilized for diversified uses such as outdoor deck, patio and other outdoor products, etc. For SYP lumber, NLGA (National Lumber Grades Authority) and NGR (National Grading Rules) grade regulations approved by ALS (American Lumber Standard) are followed.

SYP grade introduction

#1 PRIME - Slightly higher quality than J-grade of SPF, No Wanes
Knot may be present
- Usable for exposed Rafters
Also suitable for furniture and flooring
#2 PRIME - Similar quality to that of J-grade for SPF
- Used mainly for treated lumber, and also used for wooden housing Frame
- 4 angles in the corner alive, and with almost no wanes (However, pencil wane on the face of one side allowed)
#2 - Similar quality to that of #2&BTR grade for SPF
Suitable for structural use
#3 - A product based on No.2 grade with the use recommended for construction where visible parts are unimportant, except for some limited criteria. 
- Products of the present grade are used mainly for Truss webs or Palette unrelated to construction materials, or Concrete forming or other industrial applications.
